On Monday morning, after having a nice social breakfast and doing our ritual making of the sandwiches (which, by the way, my father has down to such a science that subway should hire him as a consultant or Master Sandwich Artist), we excitedly boarded the big black van for a ride to Lake Burton and a half day on a pontoon boat.
Lake Burton is a man-made lake with 2,750 acres of water and over 60 miles of developed shoreline. From the water you can see the summer houses of the Georgia elite. Aside from looking at homes, the water offers a finger-like shape so that you get the opportunity to explore little alcoves and islands.
We had a great day touring the lake. Savannah spent much of the time in the tube being towed. Maddie had a nap. We jumped off the boat into the splendid, soft water. It was lovely.

Sun-kissed and energized we arrived back to the cabin. After a quick run to Betty’s general store, we all participated in cooking family dinner. The girls are fantastic helpers and together they made us a great guacamole. We ate dad’s famous burritos and had a good time reminiscing about our day on the water.
After dinner, we went outside for some star gazing and cookie eating. We chatted and danced under the blue ridge sky.
